The Mudo was created using only flat sheets of material while minimizing waste in the fabrication process. This led to shapes that were natural tessellations of one another. The material is 1/4” thick Masonite with plastic laminate on both sides and the pieces are cut using a CNC Router. Because each piece is the opposing tessellation of its neighbor, we were able to nest the shapes much closer together, maximizing the overall use of the material, and are left with very little waste. The table is then assembled by fitting each piece into the next one’s notch, which creates a very rigid structure.
